The Minority Business Accelerator (MBA), an economic development initiative of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, has added Pathfinder Consulting and Management Performance International Inc. to its portfolio of 34 firms.
About Minority Business Accelerator (MBA)
MBA was established in 2003 to help accelerate the development of minority business enterprises (MBEs) and to strengthen and expand the regional minority entrepreneurial community. Its strategy is to foster a regional business environment that supports the further continued growth of successful minority-owned businesses by encouraging mutually beneficial business relationships between MBEs (the supply side), the corporate community (demand side) and the private sector.
The portfolio of 34 firms includes a wide range of offerings including: architecture and design, commercial construction, HR staffing, civil engineering, brand marketing, accounting, IT systems engineering, warehousing, transportation/shipping logistics, promotional products, printing, facilities management, construction management, environmental health and safety, and petroleum supply.
Pathfinder Consulting and Management Performance International Inc. (MPI) are among companies recently added to the MBA portfolio. Requirements for the portfolio include minimum revenues of $1M, Chamber membership, status as a Certified Minority Owned business, a sizeable and scalable business model with double digit growth potential, Headquartered/significant presence in the Cincinnati region, B2B or B2G product/service delivery, and desire to grow at an accelerated pace.

CEO and President, John Hawkins
Hawkins is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he received his Bachelors of Business Administration in Banking and Finance in 1984. Hawkins’ experience in international business is extensive, including 17 years with Procter & Gamble, culminating in his role as Head of Customer Marketing for all of P&G’s company business in Brazil. During his tenure at P&G, he was an early pioneer of the company’s multicultural marketing campaigns, creating the foundation for programs now considered to be standards in the industry. Upon returning to the US, John left P&G and joined Kellogg’s as VP of Sales, Central US. He was then tapped to become Senior Vice President of Sales for Novartis Medical Nutrition’s Acute Care and Home Care division.
Hawkins’ international executive experience earned him an invitation to become Vice President of Consulting, Americas with Glendinning Management Consulting. In this role he became known for his expertise in the areas of best in class strategy development, organizational effectiveness, and capability development across a number of world class consumer goods companies. Hawkins has worked with hundreds of companies around the world such as BP Castrol, Mattel, Revlon (US and Mexico), Mars, Unilever and Imperial Tobacco Canada. While consulting with Imperial Tobacco he was asked to join their executive team as Head of Trade and Business Development to help activate the strategies he co-developed.
Hawkins is a former US Army Reserve Officer. He currently serves as Board President for the RC Durr YMCA and is its representative to the Greater Cincinnati YMCA Board of Governors. He is a member of the Greater Cincinnati, African American and Northern KY Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Northern KY Chamber’s Board of Advisers.

Hawkins and his team are considered thought leaders across several industries. He most recently served as key note speaker and facilitator for leadership seminars at the National Performance Institute in Washington D.C. and for Roche Pharmaceuticals in Istanbul, Turkey, which featured business executives from over eleven different countries in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Hawkins will also be a keynote speaker at the 2013 Shopper Marketing Institute’s Annual Summit in April, featuring pioneering work the firm is currently conducting in multicultural marketing. He and his team also guest lecture on International Marketing for the University of Cincinnati MBA Program, and serve as judges for the Strategy Works Marketing Competition held by Miami University in Oxford for clients like Cessna and Reebok.
The Pathfinder|MPI team is pioneering work with client partners in several strategic areas in healthcare, including the delivery of shared services models, culturally competent care, new approaches to employee engagement, integrated strategies to address childhood obesity and type II diabetes, and also strategies for organizational transformation required to shift from fee for service to pay for performance. The team will be presenting the 2013 Pathfinder Leadership Award for Cultural Competence this fall. The winner of this year’s award will be announced this summer.
